Born, Louisville area; studied in Paris, France, c. 1880, with Dagnan-Bouveret (1852-1929), Puvis-de-Chavannes (1824-1898) and Jacques Emile Blanche (1861-1942); upon returning to America settled in Washington, D.C. where he painted senators and congressmen; re-established in Louisville, c. 1890 as a portrait artist, often created portraits from photographs; retired from painting in 1925; died, New Albany, Indiana.
