New Happenings Online
By Brian Pollock
Temporarily unavailable this past spring as content was updated, The Filson Bookstore has returned to the World Wide Web with improvements. Items in our bookstore are now separated into three categories: books, dolls and miscellaneous items. Twenty-five book titles related to The Filson, either as previous programs or special projects, are available for online purchase. The dolls and miscellaneous items departments feature merchandise from the museum store at Filson on Main. Only a sampling of our entire inventory appears online. Please call The Filson if you do not see an item for which you are looking.
Would you like to renew your membership and save postage costs? The membership web page now features an online form for you to submit your payment for another year of membership to The Filson Historical Society. Your friends can also use this simple method to become new members of The Filson. Details of the benefits of various levels of memberships are listed on the web page.
Membership dues and donations help The Filson continue to operate as an independent historical society. Now it is even easier to support our mission through online donations. Options are available for memorial and honorary gifts in addition to donating to the Annual Fund drive. Donations are also accepted to undesignated programs. Information is also available about adding your treasures to our significant special collections.
Special security precautions have been taken to ensure the safety of your information transmitted via the Internet. The online bookstore, membership and donation pages are hosted on separate web pages from The Filsonís main site. You will notice that these pages have a different URL in the address bar when you visit these pages from www.filsonhistorical.org/. This is the secure site that is used to protect your information.
The third-floor gallery houses a variety of exhibits showcasing the collections of The Filson Historical Society. This new section of the website provides information about and photographs of current and past exhibits. Use this as a preview for your trip to the Ferguson Mansion or as an opportunity to see a missed exhibit.
The website continues to change as we work to be more accessible to your online needs. We welcome your comments and appreciate any suggestions for content that would be of interest to you.
