Kentucky Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (KALBC)

  • Established in 2004 by an executive order and administered by the Kentucky Historical Society, the KALBC has directed the organization and coordination of Kentucky’s bicentennial events as well as served as a leader in statewide efforts to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Lincoln’s birth. Their website contains a complete listing of bicentennial events in Kentucky.

    • Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site

  • Bicentennial Inaugural Event, Feb. 12, 2008, Hodgenville, Ky.
    Kentucky's Lincoln sites will be featured at the kick-off event, as well as other Lincoln-related programs and presentations. Invited guests include President George W. Bush, Kentucky Governor Steven L. Beshear, Pulitzer Prize winner, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and actor Sam Waterson.

    • Lincoln Heritage Trail

  • Unveiling, February 12, Hodgenville, Ky.
    The Lincoln Heritage Trail will be comprised of 12 primary sites along the main circuit of the trail in more than a dozen counties, placing Abraham Lincoln within a broader Kentucky context.

  • Lincoln-Hanks Wedding Anniversary Celebration, June 14, 2008, Springfield, Ky.
    A performance of “Dearly Beloved: The Vows of a Lincoln Legacy” marking the 202nd anniversary of the marriage of Abraham Lincoln’s parents, Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks on June 12, 1806.

  • Beyond the Log Cabin: Kentucky's Abraham Lincoln, scheduled to open October 2008, Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, Frankfort, KY.
    This exhibit presents the untold story of Lincoln's lifelong engagement with Kentucky and Kentuckians, a relationship that impacted his life, politics, the Civil War, and Kentucky’s position in the Union.
