The Filson Historical Society Programs & Publications

As part of our mission, The Filson offers a variety of programming.

The Filson offers an education program for schools. Schools and other groups can visit for tours (reservations are required) of the Ferguson Mansion and museum. Three education trunks are offered: Frontier Kentucky, Lewis and Clark, and Civil War. For more information click on the "School Programming" link on the left.

Lectures have been offered since our founding in 1884 and have included a President of the United States (Theodore Roosevelt) and Pulitzer Prize winning authors.

In keeping with our commitment to scholarship and education, The Filson offers several fellowship and internship programs, as well as conferences and tours to historical sites.

Our publication, Ohio Valley History, includes scholarly articles on different topics related to Kentucky and Ohio Valley history, as well as featuring institutional collections.

Our newsmagazine, The Filson, offers articles drawing upon our collections and updates readers on current Filson programs and offerings.

The Filson Institute organizes two conferences a year - in the spring and the fall - as well as a larger call for papers academic conference every two years. The Filson Civil War Field Institute is a guided multi-day tour/study of Civil War battles/campaigns.
